Robin Hood
'Oh He's telling the truth
alright my Lord', the Lady Marian will be there'
'Maybe so Gisbourne, but these peasants are so loyal to that despicable
Robin Hood, they would give up their miserable lives to protect him.
What makes you so sure?'
'The lives of his wife and children make me sure my Lord!'
'Good man Gisbourne, I have taught you well'
On the information provided, Gisbourne and his elite
solders ambushed the small group of Robin's men, who were protecting
Maid Marian on her journey from Sherwood Forest to Newark, to visit a
sick relative. After a valiant fight, the Lady Marian was captured and
the first part of the Sheriff's plan to finally dispose of Robin Hood
was in place.
'Bring me the
Knight Marshall, for we shall have a tournament and the prize will be
the hand of Lady Marian' sneered the Sheriff
Do you really
think he will show my Lord?
'Oh, he'll show
alright.
The fool's pride will not want Marian to be mine and
he will
lose favour with the peasants if he doesn't' defend her honour'
The tournament was announced and information was
posted
around the county to ensure the news would get back to Robin, that he
was to be the unwilling star attraction.
'Robin you can not
go, you know
it is a trap, the Sheriff has no honour and will never let you
win back Marian. We
will be out numbered by his solders even if he actually allows the
tournament to go ahead. What good are you to the people of Nottingham
as a dead man?'
' I hear you Little John, but even if there is but a small chance, I
must try and release my beloved from the evil that is the Sheriff of
Nottingham'
The day of the tournament arrived and a huge crowd
gathered to witness possibly the day when the Sheriff would finally
capture and defeat Robin of Sherwood.
To a loud fanfare, the Knight Marshall called into the arena, the
Sheriffs Squires and Robins band of merry men.
Boos and jeers rang out as the Sheriff and Gisbourne were called into
the list, but when Robin's name was called he was nowhere to be seen.
'Ha, so this is
your hero, is it? A spineless dog who will not even defend his ladies
honour.'
A hush went around the crowd; was Robin really not going to show? A
small section of the crowd in defiance of the Sheriff, started to chant
Robin's name, which much to the Sheriff's annoyance spread throughout
the thousands that had gathered on the day. Suddenly the
thunder
of hoofs could be heard in the distance and the almost mythical figure
of Robin Hood accompanied by his second, the slightly drunk and
somewhat rotund figure of Friar Tuck, came bounding into the arena.
'Sorry I'm late,
good people of Nottingham, I had a little trouble with the welcoming
party sent to great me by the Sheriff'
' Very well Robin, you and that drunken Friar of yours have made it
this far and it would be a shame, for all these peasants to miss out on
me humiliating you in this tournament, so we shall proceed to the the
first event'
Has Robin any hope of winning against the dastardly
tactics of the Sheriff and his men?
Does Robin have a plan how he and his men are going to get out alive?
This
is no fairy tale, so anything could happen. Who you cheer for could
just make the difference, so look out for a tournament near you and TAKE YOUR PLACE IN HISTORY |
